The Helium Core has been the backbone of my iPhone videography for years. This high quality, beautifully finished aluminium cage comes highly recommended.

As soon as I moved on from the iPhone SE to the iPhone 7 Plus, the Helium Core became the core component of my iPhone video setup. To this day it’s one of the best all metal cages available.

The Helium Core is the King of Cages

At first, I just needed a way to mount the Moondog Labs Anamorphic Adapter lens on my iPhone 7 Plus. However, the Helium Core quickly became the way I would mount anything to the iPhone, or the iPhone to anything else. No less than sixteen 1/4″-20 threaded mounting points are spaced around the edge of the cage.

Where some all-metal cages have a clamp mechanism (such as the Beastcage) or magnets (such as the Ulanzi Video Cage) to secure the retaining lid over the phone, the lid of the Helium Core is firmly secured by four thumbscrews. The result, is a solid hold on the phone to guarantee lens alignment, and no chance of the cage opening accidentally.

A lens alignment tool is included to make sure the Moondog Labs anamorphic adapter is perfectly aligned, although this can interfere with the Moondog Labs filter mount.

The only downside of the Helium Core is shared with every other cage apart from the Beastgrip Pro. Once you get a new iPhone, your Helium Core sadly will not fit. Of course, you may not be likely to upgrade every year, and even when you do, you may decide to keep the old phone. So you’ll still get a lot of use out of the Helium Core. In fact, it will probably outlive the phone.
